Putnam City High School DECA hosted the annual Trunk or Treat celebration on October 26th. Along with many school clubs, they created games and activities which were enjoyed by the students and the community.
This is an opportunity for the school to share with the community and show them a little part of the Pirate’s way. It is also an opportunity to let kids have fun in a school environment.
“Our marketing strategy is to make sure that we are always giving back to the community. Our target for this activity is to get those young students into our building, and give them an idea of how it is like to be a Pirate.” Marketing/ DECA advisor Melissa Lair said.
This is not just an opportunity for DECA students, but for everyone who volunteered. Groups like StuCo, Dance, Pom, and many sports participated. They helped set up The Haunted House, The Bounce House, organized the food trucks, and ran activities and games.
“I think it was very fun. The Haunted House was amazing. I entered there three times and I got scared all three times. I helped set up the tables, and I thought that was pretty cool.” freshman Harbert Chuong said.
Trunk or Treat mixes two things; Pirate pride and Halloween. Trunk or Treat is a way to build a bridge between the community and future PCHS students. It is a different perspective and a different time in life, but has a common goal; to have fun.
“I do think it was a great opportunity because they get to see the high school and what it is like to be a Pirate.” freshman Armond Norris said.
Trunk or Treat unites the Putnam City community and families, and it makes ties between the schools of the district. Everyone can participate in it by dressing up in their favorite costume, donating candy, or volunteering. It is a way to celebrate Halloween while welcoming the community.
“My favorite thing about Trunk or Treat was interacting with everyone, meeting new people, volunteering and leading kids to have fun in a safe environment.” junior Vladimir Sauceda said.
